ERIE CONDO

This homeowner downsized from a traditional four-bedroom suburban residence and purchased a two-bedroom LEED certified condo. The challenge to the architect was to integrate additional storage and work space seamlessly into the minimalist architectural language of the home. The existing linear burner fireplace was the origin of the new composition. It was used to create a strong visual anchor. The firebox opening also established the horizontal datum by which the massing of the asymmetrical cabinetry originated. The fireplace surround was clad with vein cut stone laid in a 1/3 running bond pattern. The stone complimented both the color and the textures of the existing flooring, concrete columns and the warm bamboo tones of the new cabinetry. Rigorous attention was given to each joint, grain pattern, and dimension.
